How are you? I am doing well other than
dealing with internet outage issues! I apologize for the late newsletter but
such is the technology dependent life! I
hope your Easter was as enjoyable as mine.
I love spending holidays with family and shopping for my girls' Easter
dresses is way more fun than shopping for myself! But since I'm writing for Tall Clothing Mall and not Baby
Shopping Mall, I'll spare you the details. ;) Between the pretty tulle dresses, the inspiring time at church, and the huge ham dinner, I'm a happy girl! And now I get to talk to you about clothes and shoes? Yes please. :)

Where Does Your Hem Fit?
So I just read THE best article about pant length in the March issue of Lucky Magazine. It was very detailed with cool sketches and everything. The reason I loved it so much is that the topic is confusing at best and ignored at worst. No one wants to wear high waters. But there are so many different silhouettes of pants these days that you could be wearing high waters and not even know it [I shudder]. Over my lifetime I have known many tall women who thought they didn't "need" tall or long length clothing. Sometimes these women wore a size that ran longer- the bigger the size, the longer the length. So someone who is 5'9 and wears a size 6 will have a hard time while someone who is 5'9" but wears a size 12 may be able to buy off the rack. If you're tall and thin, no doubt you've figured this out already. Even so, most often a woman over 5'8 or 5'9" will look best in tall sizes, even if she has to hem them. That seems ridiculous, I know! But it's even more riciculous to walk around in high waters when you have entire websites and blogs dedicated to helping you find clothes that fit. (ahem- tall clothing mall- ahem). So I've taken my general knowledge (and research) from being a fashion and stylist junkie, the information from the Lucky article, tailored it for tall women and come up with a few guidelines.
If you're wearing straight legged pants, you can cuff or crop them to hit at the ankle bone or above. Flats or Pumps look great with this type of pant. They shouldn't puddle over your shoes or fit like capris. For tall women, this is great because oftentimes designer denim/pants run longer than usual. You may be able to get away with a pant that isn't specifically for "tall." But the article I'm referencing did mention that the editors prefer the cuffed look, which would definitely require a tall sized item. ist junkie, the information from the Lucky article, tailored it for tall women and come up with a few guidelines.
For flared or wide legged pants, the hem should cover just over half your
heel, and can even skim the floor. Now some suggest the 'trampled hem' look is
"cool," but consider the source and the audience. Lucky is written by
professional fashionistas who work and live in NYC. It may look "cool," there
but in other parts of the world, ripped hems just might not do it--especially in
the work place. This is a tough one for tall women and 99% of the time requires
tall and long sizes. For skinny
pants, a variety of shoes work well. And it's hard to get the length wrong. If
they are very long you can always cuff or roll them. A few years ago the
bunching around the ankles was trendy, but that moment has passed. If they
aren't cuffed or rolled they should cover your ankle. These pants are great for
showing off amazing shoes.
Which brings me to my next topic:
Shoes. Shoes. Shoes.
I'm totally a shoe girl and each winter, spring, summer, and fall, I love looking at the hottest shoes of the season. Shopping online can be kind of risky but for a tall person, it's a must. The nice thing about shoes is that there are many online retailers who offer free shipping AND free return shipping which totally reduces the risk factor. The other way to reduce shipping costs when shopping online is to buy during "free shipping" promotions from online retailers who also have storefronts. That way shipping to you is on them and returns can be made at the store without paying shipping fees. Being tall can be expensive enough with alterations and special sizes--let's not add shipping on top of that! Without further ado here are five trends for spring with my picks for each trend. All of these shoes are free to ship. All come in sizes up to 11 with some available all the way up to a size 15.
Espadrille: Fitzwell "Aubrey" espadrille. Four colors and up to size 13. Free shipping both ways!
Gladiator: Nine West "Victory." Three colors up to a size 12. Free shipping both ways!
Wedge: BFT "Cabos" Wedge. Two colors sizes 11 to 15. Free shipping both ways!
Oxfords: Striped Oxfords. Up to size 11. Free shipping over $50.
Cork: "Newly" in Red Multi. Three colors up to a size 12 in narrow to wide. Free shipping both ways!
Have a great week! Ciao for now.
