Feb 7, 2012

Hello Tall Guys & Gals,

Hope you had a great week. Here in New England I've been anxiously awaiting the Super Bowl. It's pretty clear who I'll be rooting for! Whomever you're rooting for, I hope you have fun plans for the night. Even if you're not into football, you're probably into snacks. Between the food, the commercials, the friends and family...there should be something for everyone. In honor of the Super Bowl and my team, the New England Patriots, I thought I'd spotlight a few red and blue tall items to treasure.

UPDATE: Clearly I didn't write this in real time. Now I am weeping as I finish the newsletter. ;) Regardless of the loss, I must press on. And my red and blue picks are too good to scrap so here goes:

For the men:

red white and blue tall guy stuff

Extra fine Merino wool stripe v-neck sweater- I love this sweater. The contrast the striped V neckline adds, takes it to another level. It looks cool, comfortable, and classy with these gray slacks but you could just as easily add a pair of dark denim jeans. Doesn't it look debonair?

Men's Jersey-Fleece Zip Hoodie - My husband would love this hoodie. It looks so soft and cozy. For him, comfort comes first...but it's an added bonus for me if it looks good too. Can't go wrong here. Their tall sizes have an extra two inches in the body and arms. When you're tall, every inch counts.

Polo Ralph Lauren Big & Tall Custom-Fit Sueded Broadcloth Sportshirt- If the other looks are a little too preppy or loose for you, try this button up. Its classic vibe and navy color would look good on any man. Safe bet.

And now for the ladies:

Favorite Long Sleeve T - this shirt isn't that special. There. I said it. But I promise you, if you don't already have one (or six), you need it. I have a handful of them and wear them all. the. time. I'm not even exaggerating. When I catch them on sale I'll even buy a color I already have. Not because I'm a shopaholic (am I?) but because I seriously wear them so often and hate it when I need one and it's in the dirty clothes (what can I say? I have a 5 month old whose favorite past time is drooling on me). They are perfect for layering and the fit is such that you feel cute even when you're super casual.

'Chicago Heels'  - Every woman needs a classic pump in her life and I vote for this one. Red works well with so many color schemes--black and white, camel, navy, even pink or aqua if you're daring. These have a nice skinny heel but a round toe. Don't worry; I have your comfort in mind (lest you feel like throwing them at me by the end of the day). The bow embellishment only adds to the charm.  They come in up to size 15. Save 20% off your order at Barefoot Tess via coupon code BRPERFECT. Hurry ends 2/11.

Aryn K. Open Stitch Pullover Sweater - Let me tell you why I like this sweater. First of all, it's on sale. Score. Secondly, although it's not a "tall" size, the arms seem long and it's perfect for layering. Therefore you can wear a tall size long sleeve tee (how about the one I just mentioned? See, you're wearing it already) under it. It would also look cute cropped. If you have a very long torso and it's short on you it would look like you did that on purpose. Don't you love it when that happens?
Howdy Partner

This week's partner spotlight is Express. Just like last week's partner, Express has goods a plenty for both men and women. Express is fashionable but also very wearable. I will admit that some of it seems to be designed for the younger generation but it also offers classic pieces with a modern twist. Besides, I think as we age [insert cringe here], it's important to make sure we stay modern. You don't have to be uber trendy but if you at least browse Express (and other stores like it) you can get a feel for what the kids are wearing these days and incorporate some of the same themes into your wardrobe-- all the while keeping it age appropriate and classy. I love the Valentine's Day gift guides they are currently featuring--something for everyone.

Tips and Trends

Speaking of Valentine's Day, Krista and I thought it would be a good idea to choose some Valentine's picks for the week. What to wear, what to give, and even what to do (be looking for some of this on the blog over the next week as well as in next week's newsletter). Here are a couple of things to get you started!

slim cropped tall pants for women

Slim Cropped Pants and How cute are these pants? I have to include something from this partner in every newsletter because they have a great selection of affordable tall clothing. I love the idea of pairing these with a striped shirt as seen on the model. But you could also wear a sexy cami to dress it up and in honor of St. Valentine. They're very versatile - dress them up or down depending on where your sweetie's taking you.

jcp tall men's sport coat

JF J.Ferrar® Men's Sport Coat, Orion Black - I love a man in a blazer. It's just so dashing. You can throw on an entire suit with a tie if you are really going all out but these days most restaurants are casual enough that it's completely acceptable to wear a sport coat with dark denim jeans. It's definitely a staple in any wardrobe. You don't want to disappoint when you show up at her doorstep next week, roses in hand do you?!

Keep an eye on the home page and blogs this week for some additional Valentine's Day ideas and inspiration!
