Hello Tall Guys & Gals,

Hope you all have had a fantastic week and are enjoying your long weekend in honor of President's Day. I love long weekends for so many reasons- one of which is the amazing sales that happen during these times. Any excuse to get us to spend our hard earned cash huh?! Well make sure to check out the Tall Clothing Mall sales and discounts page (and keep reading) for oodles of coupon codes and Sales Alerts.

News & Updates & Review

Did you catch Krista's facebook and blog post about the awesome sales going on this weekend? Can you believe the sale included Ugg? I for one was pretty excited about that. They never go on sale so if you've been craving a new pair like I have, now's your chance to get them. They are selling out F-A-S-T! Here are a few pairs that I personally love- marked down at least 30% off, and in stock up to a size 12. Men, you can get in on this one too. Check out my picks for you- up to a size 15 (the "Sullivan" and "Thurston" go to a size 18!) and at least 25% off.

Men, there is another post just for you: tall cargo shorts.Cargo shorts are one of those basic items any man can wear. They fit a multitude of age ranges and sizes. Lastly, my favorite post of the week (and maybe even the year) - Krista's color blocking post . No I am not just kissing up to Krista. ;) I love this trend and it made my heart happy to see it in such a wide array of items. Check it out

Howdy Partner

This week's partner spot light is on Splendid. I'll admit I don't frequent this store but as I looked through it to find items to highlight, I wondered 'why the heck not?!' Splendid has simply chic items at reasonable prices. And even better? The entire purpose of this "lifestyle driven collection," is to use soft, breathable combinations of fabric to make sure you feel as good as you look in their designs.

Carnival Cover Up, Oatmeal Stripe Dress, Grandpa Cardigan
While these items aren't "tall" they all flatter a tall frame. The cover up is tunic length with ¾ sleeves so if it's not the perfect length no one will be the wiser. The striped dress could easily go over a pair of leggings or jeggings and the Grandpa sweater is longer length with sleeves that look good rolled up.

Tips and Trends

This week's tip is how to hide a belly...the trendy way. I'll admit that this one hits close to home. I have always worked out and tried stay fit, but not out of necessity. Although I always tried not to go overboard with my eating, I was also blessed with good genes! Well as I've aged and had 2 kids only 21 months apart, my figure has taken a beating! I now have to dress to hide my flaws. And I humbly say I think I do a decent job of it because no one really believes I have a bit of ahem, love, left over from having my girls. It's all about camouflage. I've become quite good at highlighting my assets and hiding my flaws...and you can too! Since many women will say that their stomach is their problem area, I thought I'd start there. First my top five guidelines for hiding extra weight around the middle and then some flattering picks.

1. Wearing tight clothes does not make us look thinner.

2. Wearing super loose clothes does not make us look thinner.

Let me explain: we should wear clothes that fit. If you wear a Lycra shirt of course any lumps or bumps will be visible. But if you wear a big, cotton t-shirt, everyone will just see...mass. Neither is flattering. You have to be honest with yourself (and maybe grab an honest but nice friend who will tell you the truth in a kind way) and figure out what size you really wear.

I have a friend I went shopping with and as we were shopping, I noticed she was picking out size medium and large. By the time I was finished with her, she was trying on a size small. And she looked 10 lbs lighter.

On the flip side I have a friend who was getting dressed for a special night out and walked out of her closet wearing a skin tight shiny mini dress. I literally thought she was joking. Well when she asked my opinion, I told her I thought she could find something more flattering. She then put on an A line dress that was fitted at the bust and looked like it might have been two sizes bigger than the tight mini. She instantly looked 15 pounds slimmer (and I am NOT exaggerating!). Ok, here are a few more tips:

3. Empire and A line cuts are our friends. Anything that fits under the bust and flows out is flattering when trying to hide a belly. That said, be careful to choose a structured fabric. If it's not, people might think you're preggers and no one wants that! (I must admit that someone once asked me if I was pregnant when wearing an empire blouse. In my defense everyone at this particular event was drinking and I was abstaining so I'm hoping that in combination with the shirt is what made her ask. Nevertheless she was mortified and I burned that blouse). Speaking of fabric:

 4. Choose structured fabrics rather than silky or slinky ones. Stacy of "What Not to Wear," said it best. She says after our 20s our dresses shouldn't "bounce." If you hold a dress on a hanger, shake the hanger, and the dress bounces- it's probably Lycra and spandex and you should throw it in the "donate" pile. Again, I'm preaching to myself. A few years ago I got rid of all my...what I called "fun" dresses that may not have been too "bouncy" when I purchased them during my college years, but years later they weren't doing me any favors.

5. Shiny fabrics are not forgiving. This doesn't mean to wear black all the time! But just be aware that metallics can sometimes highlight our lumps and bumps. In addition, these items don't photograph well and don't look great on camera. Ok, is your head spinning? I follow each and every one of these rules and a few others I'll save for a later post and I'm telling you- it works! Now for the fun part--here are six pieces I'd suggest if your stomach is your problem area:

1. Women's Color Blocked Button Tab Tops- the boxy shape will hide a belly AND it's very on trend (perhaps you can pair it with a bright pant I mentioned a few weeks ago?). In addition, the black stripe will trick the eye making you look like you have a smaller waist.

2. Women's Striped Maxi Dress- the pattern and loose bodice camouflages imperfections and the darts below the bust compliment most women.

3. Pintucked Henley Shirt- a more forgiving version of a button down- throw a scarf on with it or layer a blazer over it for a professional and slimming look.

4. Alexa Dress - structured material and A line shape make this a great go-to.

5. Long Drape Jersey Cardigan- the drapes conceal flaws while still looking stylish. Wear a contrasting tank or tee under it for a casual feel.

6. Helmut Lang Overlap Top- you can still be edgy even if you're not shaped like a super model. This sexy nude colored draped tank is on trend, stylish, and totally flattering.
